All five Wandsworth Sportshall athletics teams have all qualified for the London Youth Games School Sportshall athletics finals in March. In an impressive show of athletic strengh at the Central London Finals, teams from Ernest Bevin, Chestnut Grove, Putney High and Sacred Heart all finished in the top two places to book their places in the final.
With the event being held at Ernest Bevin College, the home team of Year 7 & 8 Bevin boys exerted their authority from the very first race, and were convincing winners over their competitors from Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea. The girls from Putney High (Year 7) & Chestnut Grove (Year 8) both started nervously, but grew more confident with excellent performances as the competition progressed. Both Wandsworth teams cam second behind the Team from Lambeth, who they meet again in the London Final.
Although it seemed like a tough act to follow, Sacred Heart Battersea arrived full of confidence for the afternoon Year 5/6 event. Following an inspiring team talk from Mr Thomas, they quickly set about the business of joining their secondary counterparts in the London final. Sacred Heat quickly renewed their friendly rivalry with Granton School from Lambeth and it became quickly evident that these two were the teams to beat. In the end, Granton came out as the narrow winners with Sacred Heart qualifying in second place for the London Final.
Congratulations to all the Wandsworth Teams and the Ernest Bevin College Sports Leaders who did a great job officiating at the event. Next stop Crystal Palace!
