Bouncing into the competition calendar!

Ashcroft, Chestnut Grove, Elliott, Graveney and Southfields girls took to the trampoline beds on 25 March in the Y7-13 competition held at Southfields Community College.

The competition was fast and furious with the girls competing in one of three categories; Y7/8, Y9/10, or Y11/Sixth Form, performing one of four preset routines.  It was a team competition with each school entering up to four girls per category.  Each performer chose a routine, and their scores with added with those of their team members.

Being only the second trampolining competition Wandsworth School Sport Partnership has run, the volunteer judges from Chestnut Grove, Elliott and Graveney were as nervous as the competitors.  The Y7/8 girls got off to a great start, the first competitor scoring 9.6 out of 10 in the most advanced routine.  With only 3.4 marks between first and third place, the Y7/8 competition was an exciting one.  Elliott’s team finished third on 26.7 points, Southfields took silver with 27.4 points, and Chestnut Grove were victorious with 30.1 points.  Individual scores followed the same pattern, with Soukaina Hinda (Southfields) scoring 8.5, Celestia Piesakowska (Elliott) scoring 8.8, and Hannah Butler (Chestnut Grove) scoring 9.6.

The Y9/10 category was the most popular, with 16 competitors, and all five schools being represented.  The girls showed a huge amount of talent, with 11 girls tackling the most advanced routine, and the other 5 girls scoring at the top end of their routine.  Ashcroft were short of two performers, which left them fifth in the team event, Southfields finished fourth, Elliott claimed bronze with 28.1 points, Graveney took silver with 34 points and Chestnut Grove finished top with 38 points.  It was very close between individual scores; Toni-Marie Campbell and Jennifer Broadbent both from Chestnut Grove scored 9.7, and Keavy Hunnigal-Gaw (Elliott) and Courtney St Lewis Davies (Graveney) scored 9.9.

Competitors from Ashcroft, Chestnut Grove and Southfields took part in the Y11 and Sixth Form category, and finished the competition skilfully.  Southfields finished third on 11.3 points, Ashcroft took silver with 16.3 points (both second and third place teams had only two performers), and Chestnut Grove once again finished on top with 27.1 points.  Individually, Ashley Dawkins (Chestnut Grove) scored 7.0, and Ashcroft proved their talent, with Najina Campous scoring 8.0 and Emma Wakrim scoring 8.3.

Whilst the scores were being calculated, the girls got a chance to display their skills in a freestyle showcase.  Back somersaults, front somersaults, split jumps, seat landing after seat landing were aplenty and the girls clearly enjoyed the freedom of not having to stick to a routine!

Well done to all the performers who were a credit to their schools on and off the trampolines.  A special thanks to Miss Ayris, Miss Briggs and Mr Hayden for judging the competition, thank you to Southfields for hosting the event, and thank you to the SSCo team and Paul Williams for your support.
