A total of eight local schools attended the Tooting and Balham Athletics cluster, held at Tooting Bec track. The morning session started with several field events taking place, with discuss and long jump to name but a few. This gave many children the opportunity to try some events that they had never tried before, which will hopefully inspire them to have a go again, some time in the near future.
With the point score for the morning session completed, the events moved onto the track. Schools competed in the 60, 100 and 400 meter races, with the last race being the 4 x 100m relay. With all the events and points counted, it left for a tense final results cerceremony. In an impressive third place was Hillbrook, who had performed well in all the days events. Second place went to Belleville, who also performed well, especially on the track events. However, finishing with a very strong and convincing lead, was Raventsone School, who won the event by a very respectful 60 point margin.
As it was an England World Cup day the children left to watch the aftenoon match back at their schools. If only the England team had performed as well as all the schools attending, maybe they woud have won the World Cup!
