Wandsworth Special Schools have had a very busy sporting calendar so far this year. Read on to find out what they've been up to...
This term we competed in the Panathlon Challenge again, with Oak Lodge, Linden Lodge, Greenmead and Paddock schools representing the Wandsworth team. The Central London 1st round competition was on February 15th where we tied with Lambeth to proceed to the Central London Finals on March 25th. We were just pipped by Lambeth in final unfortunately, but the team preformed with great intensity in both competitions and were lucky enough to be presented their medals by GB Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball player, Helen Turner. Smiles all round!
Linden Lodge School have again been lucky enough to have some visits from the Golf professionals at The Roehampton Club. Both students and pro’s have worked hard to better the golf skills on display to passers-by and some impressively struck balls have been seen flying across their lawns! But the best bit was the end of term visit to the Roehampton Club where the junior members and pros organised a putting competition on their new greens. A great experience for all involved!
On March 23rd a number of our schools were represented at the Wandsworth Sports Development Special Schools swimming gala. Linden Lodge had 15 keen swimmers, Oak Lodge and Garret park half a dozen each, participating in a variety of length and width races, with some students challenging for a place on the Wandsworth London Youth Games team. There were quite a number of runners up and 1st place awards handed out on the day!
Schools from Wandsworth as well as South and Central London have continued in their pursuit of a place in the Champions League Final. No not Football but the Paralympic sport of Boccia. We hosted Round 3 on March 9th at Wandle Rec Centre, and students played in a number of closely fought matches. A few of our Wandsworth teams racked up a number of wins throughout the 3 rounds this year and will have a good chance of being there on May 6th Champions League finals day!
