A Mini (Tennis) Adventure!

In true British fashion, the Wimbledon Championships approached, and the rain set in!  We were due to hold our Wandsworth Mini Tennis Finals on 10th June but unfortunately it had to be postponed due to terrential rain!

10 days later, eight teams descended on the National Tennis Centre during the first week of Wimbledon to compete in the tournament.  Belleville, Allfarthing, Earlsfield and Southmead all brought teams and played in glorious sunshine!

The Murray and Nadal groups battled it out over 3 matches before meeting teams from the opposite group in the play off stages.  Earlsfield finished top of the Nadal group and booked in a semi final challenge against Belleville A and Brandlehow finished top of the Murray group to play Belleville B in the other semi final.

Both semis were drawn 2-2 (teams of 4) and had to be decided on total points scored!  Earlsfield and Belleville B came out on top and would face each other in the final.  Brandlehow and Belleville A would then play one another for third place.

Earlsfield built on their strong serve with some great rallies between all four players, but Belleville B were unable to claw enough points back.  Earlsfield took the match 3-1, sharing the same score line in third place play off as Brandlehow won!

Final standings were: 1 = Earlsfield, 2 = Belleville B, 3 = Brandlehow, 4 = Belleville A, 5 = Allfarthing, 6 = Southmead A, 7 = Southmead B, 8 = Southmead C.

As Wandsworth Mini Tennis Champions, Earlsfield progressed to the Central London School Games at Crystal Palace to represent the Wandsworth Wizards!  The team played brilliantly on the day and beat each team they faced, eventually winning the final against the Kensington & Chelsea representatives from Fox Primary school.

As winners of the Central London School Games, they went onto the represent Wandsworth at the London Mini Tennis Finals at Westway on 14th July.  Unfortunately, missing a orginal team member, Earlsfield weren't quite themselves, and finished a very repectable 6th.
