Enable Leisure and Culture
Enable Leisure and Culture is a social enterprise established in October 2015 to manage leisure, sports, arts and cultural services for Wandsworth Council. We’re an organisation committed to ‘doing things differently’, putting health, wellbeing and community at the centre of everything we do. http://enablelc.org/leisure/
The Enable Sport and Physical Activity team cover a wide number of areas all with the underlying aim of making Wandsworth residents more active in whatever role from participating, volunteering, coaching or officiating. Working together with Wandsworth SSP there are a few key areas to highlight:
Competitions – Alongside Wandsworth SSP, Enable run a number of competitions for both Primary and Secondary schools with the aim to hold Borough wide competitions which increases levels of participation across a range of sports throughout the year. The competitions are all listed on the site’s calendar and are purposefully timed to fit in with the competition pathway enabling successful teams to take part in London based, regional and in some cases national competitions.
London Youth Games – Each year Wandsworth enters the London Youth Games to compete against the other 32 London Boroughs across 26 sports for secondary school children and 9 sports for primary aged children. The Games training normally begins after Easter, building up to the Preliminary competitions and if successful the finals weekend at the beginning of July. Physical Activity – As well as structured sessions and competitions there is also a strong emphasis on keeping children active and aware of the positive benefits of exercise and nutrition. The Enable Sport and Physical Activity support lowering obesity levels within the Borough. Regular sessions take place across Wandsworth to encourage the whole family to get involved in planning an active and healthy lifestyle.
Clubs – Working closely with clubs we try to support their development ranging from educating coaches, advising on funding and governance of clubs as well as how they can link in with schools to increase opportunities for young people to access sport.
Active Wandsworth Awards – The prestigious awards ceremony is one of the highlights of the year and enables the Borough to recognise all the talented participants, dedicated coaches and volunteers, and flourishing clubs in the Borough. So if you know of anybody who should be acknowledged for their achievements please make sure you nominate them here.
