Southfields Girls Lift Football Title
The Wandsworth Key Stage 3 Girl's football tournament took place on Tuesday 25th here at Southfields Academy as part of National School Sport Week.
The tournament involved 9 teams from schools including Battersea Park, Graveney, St John Bosco College, Burntwood, Ark Academy Putney and Southfields. The competition was the showcase event of the Wandsworth Girls Football League which had run every Tuesday afternoon at Southfields. Graveney school had ended up champions of the league, however, the 6-a-side tournament proved a different story.
The teams were split into two leagues with the top two teams qualifying for the knockout stages. Both Southfields' teams played some great football and qualified for the semi finals. Southfields A ran out convincing winners against Burntwood, to reach the final. The second semi final between Southfields B And Graveney was a much closer affair, with Southfields eventually winning through in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
This set up an all Southfields final with the A team proving to be too strong fro the B Team. However, the competition proved to be a great success and fitting end to a fine season of girls football in Wandsworth.
