Wandsworth children joined thousands of young people from London Schools at the final of the London School Games at Crystal Palace on 3rd July. Whether the students were competing, volunteering as sports leaders or taking part in the Fan Fest events, they all had a great day out.
There were some tremendous performances by Wandsworth schools in the competitive sporting events. Belleville Gymnasts excelled at the Key Steps Gymnatsics, winning both the Y3&4 and the Y5&6 team competition and retaining their crown as the London champions. Honeywell's tennis squad finished in a fantastic 5th place.
Penwortham basketball team manged to win through the group stages and were beaten in the knockout stages by an excellent Lambeth team. Despite scoring 65 points more than last year, Ravenstone came 17th place in the Quadkids athletics event.
In addition to the competitors, Wandsworth had a high profile at the London finals with Broadwater & Southfields Dance groups performimg at the opening ceremony and students from Graveney were also at the event, Volunteering as sports leaders as part of the Games Force Team programme.
In addition to this, there was a strong Wandsworth presence in the Fanfest event with students from Penwortham, St Josephs, Granard, Franciscan, Smallwood, and Fircroft all taking part in a number of taster events and activities.
