Wandsworth Basketball Round Up

The Autumn term has been a busy one for the basketball players in Wandsworth Secondary Schools, with eight competition and four finals taking place during this period.

Both the U14s & U16s Girls Competitions were contested by team from Southfields Academy, Harris Academy Battersea and St John Bosco College and really demonstrated a defininte increase in participation and performance levels in basketball.

Following two round robin competitions in each age group, the team from St John Bosco and Harris Academy Battersea both won through the respective finals.

In the U14 final, Harris Academy won an excellent final 29-10 leaving STBC to pick up the silver medals. The U16s final was initially a much tighter affair with SJBC storming to a 9 point lead in the first quarter. However, as the game progressed the Battersea team's skill and strength in depth began to show and they racked up the points to run out convincing Wandsworth champions for the 6th consecutive year

In the boys competitions, Harris Academy Battersea U16s boys were totally dominant and will represent Wandsworth in the London School Games in fine style. The Under 14s Boys competion saw the Battersea team and SJBC see off some stern opposition from Southfields Academy & Bolingbroke to reach the final.

At the final, everyone was treated to an excellent game of basketball which at the halfway stage stood at 16-16. With all to play for in the second half, St John Bossco team played the exciting basketball that had made them pre match favourites and ran out winners 24-16.

Congratulations to all the teams involved in the competition and good luck to the winning teams in the next round of the London School Games
