Ravenstone & Putney High are London Champs

The winners of the Wandsworth Sportshall Athletics all competed in the South London qualifier at Westcroft Leisure Centre on Friday 27 February.

While teams from Southfields, Ernest Bevin and Graveney all performed admirably; pride of place must go to the athletes from Ravenstone Primary & Putney High School who both won their respective competitions and will now go on to reprsent Wandsworth in the London Finals.

In the Year 8 female event, Putney High School beat teams from 7 other borough to reach the final at Crystal Palace. They will be joined there by St Martins-in-the-fields from Lambeth.

There was a Wandsworth and Lambeth one-two in the Year 5/6 competition too with Ravenstone Primary from Wandsworth and Granton Primary from Lambeth qualifying and Morris Tolaram, Wandsworth team manager, was delighted to have booked a place at Crystal Palace:

“Last year we came third in this competition, we didn’t make it through to the finals at Crystal Palace so it’s great to go two sets better and be the winners of this competition. It’s great that a provision like this is made for the younger children and I know there are probably a lot of talented children out here who don’t get a chance to go to a higher level so the fact that we’re putting in competitions to this level is great for those children.”

We wish them luck in the London Finals on 24th March 2015
