Volleyball Gold Again for Ernest Bevin

VOLLEYBALL GOLD FOR WANDSWORTH STUDENTS

Ernest Bevin College from Wandsworth yet again reigned supreme at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games male school volleyball finals at UEL Sportsdock on Thursday 12 March.

Ernest Bevin College, made up of year 10 and under pupils, were going for a fourth title in a row and showed their quality throughout the day starting with a 25-14 win over Thomas More Catholic from Croydon.

Ernest Bevin then saw off the challenges of Park High School from Harrow, Redden Court Academy from Havering and Orleans Park from Richmond to book a spot in the final.

There they faced a well drilled Beths Grammar School from Bexley but they proved too strong on the day with a 25-14 victory.

Team manager Terrell Jordan was happy with the way his team conducted themselves throughout the competition especially as defending champions:

“Having won it last year, everyone wants you so there’s the pride of being winners but also it’s tough because every year guys are getting better and better to try and beat us so it’s always a pleasure when you win.

“They enjoy it, they love it. On the way here they’re always ‘Oh we’re going to do it again’ but when they get here they’re always humble, respectful which I like.”

Putney High also put on a fine performance in the Girls event by finishing in 5th Place. This is a tremendous achievement for the team who only took up volleyball last year.
