Shaftesbury Park win Girls football in style.

There was a great turn out for the Wandsworth School Games Year 5/6 Girls football competition held on 15th November at Southfields Academy. The event, run in partnership with AFC Wimbledon Foundation, saw 23 schools involving over 200 girls, battling it out to progress to lthe London School Games final.

The morning session saw teams play in a round robin format with schools playing all of the other teams in their pool. The top two teams from each pool then qualified for the knockout stages to determine the winners. The teams finishing outside of these places went into a plate competition.

In the plate competition, Allfarthing were narrowly defeated by Broomwood school, who were making their debut in the competition. In the Championship competition, Shaftesbury Park capped an amazing day with a fabuously victory over Holy Ghost. It was the first time finalists Shaftesbury Park had reached a School Games final and celebrated in style.

The competition was played in a fantastic spirit all day with the School Games values of Determination and Teamwork being promoted by all. However, Brandlehow, Gatton, Falconbrook and Alderbrook were the most nominated schools to receive the Respect the Games Certificates.
