Girls football plays through the rain!

5 schools braved the rain this Wednesday to play in the Y7 & 8 girls football festival at Southfields.  All the girls were in high spirits and played like their wasn't a drop of water in the skies!

Southfields A, Burntwood A, Graveney B and Ashcroft made up Group One.  Every game in Group One was close with the biggest margins between teams being 2 goals.

Group Two saw Southfields B, St Cecilia's, Graveney A and Burntwood battle it out with a total of 20 goals scored in 6 games.

A tie on points between Southfields A and Ashcroft at the top of Group One saw Southfields A go through on goals scored, to play St Cecilia's who topped Group Two having won all three of their games.

Ashcroft played Southfields B in the final game for thrid and forth place, while Burntwood A challenged Graveney A for fifth place and Burntwood B faced Graveney B for seventh and eighth place.

After strong challenges, hammering shots and some excellent goal keeping first place went to St Cecilia's on countback as the final ended as a 0-0 draw; testimony to the all round strength of both St Cecilia's and Southfields A.  Ashcroft beat Southfields B (4th) to finish third, while Graveney A were able to put 2 goals past Burntwood A to claim 5th place (it would have been more, but Burntwood A's goal keeper had a stormer!).  Graveney B and Burntwood B's game ended 4-0 to see Graveney B take 7th place.

Considering the hammering rain and numb fingers and toes, the girls had great fun and most wanted to play more games.  Well done to all girls that played, you played with great English spirit (a smile in the rain)!

We were very grateful for the refereeing from Southfields sixth form students and thanks to all the teachers that brought their teams to Southfields.
