¡Hola from Madrid! So this is what a foreign journalist feels like. I sit in a Madrid tapas bar eating some delicacy waiting for a visa to be replaced and i am writing about a National UK event. What a life. I will take the permanent position.
I speak of course of the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) hosted at the Battersea Evolution Centre. The 16th March 2010 saw competitiors from across the country converge to take part in National Trials. The events on the day included; timed races, distance races and relay events.
Although this was not a Wandsworth SSP event we did however fly the Wandsworth flag. Not as competitiors, but as volunteers. The Wandsworth Leadership Academy aptly recruited 12 volunteers who helped make the day a huge success. Volunteers came for the full day and represented themselves, their schools and the Partnership with distinction. Volunteers from Battersea Park school, Burntwood, Graveney, Salesian, St Cecilia´s and Southfields all took part. Their roles ranged from marshalling to data input with anything in between.
A great day was had by all, with many of these volunteers going on to help at the Virgin London Marathon just last week. A special mention must go to Putney High girls relay team who were victorious in the final race of the day.
