6th Form Challenge

The Wandsworth SSP annual 6th Form challenge took place late last term at the Battersea Youth Centre.  Eventual winners from the day saw Graveney and SFX tie overall for the girls trophy, Southfields win the boys trophy and SFX walk away with the mixed trophy.  Sports on the day included football, basketball, volleyball and the highlight, indoor rowing.

Football was a competitive affair as usual.  The boys finalists comprise of 2 teams from Southfields and 2 teams from Elliott.  The final saw Southfields against Southfields, and yes Southfields were eventual winners.  The girls was more open with three different schools.  The final between Graveney and SFX saw Graveney as the eventual winners in a great last game.

Volleyball was well represented by 7 schools.  SFX and Elliott put on a strong display, but it wsa Graveney and Ernest Bevin who made it through to the final.  Ernest Bevin in the end ran out comfortable victors.

Basketball was a fierce competition for both girls and boys.  The girls competition was a two horse race with Graveney and SFX meeting in the final.  SFX proved too strong in a run away final.  The boys was a great competition.  Matches were always close and at times drawn, such was the small difference between teams.  The final ended up with STC facing SFX.  In a hard fought final and STC were deserved winners.

Rowing was the final event.  Competitiors raced for 1000m and the combined time of 1 girl and 1 boy decided the winners.  Four races took place and the winners were Graveney B team, in second were STC C team and finishing third were St Cecilia's D team.  It was great to see the students gain a new respect for a sport they knew little about.  The pain and exhaustion on the faces of some was clearly evident! All students participated and represented their schools well.  It was great to see age seems to strengthen schools spirit all the more.  We are already counting down to next years 6th Form challenge.
