Wandsworth Schools Netball Finals

Secondary schools in Wandsworth have been playing in our Netball leagues for the last three half terms, which have culminated in the first Wandsworth Schools Netball Finals for a number of years.

8 schools took part in the Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10 leagues over the winter, which would have prepared them for the adverse conditions of the final at Burntwood School.

In a chilling temperature and a bitter wind, Burntwood and Graveney fought it out for the Y7 title.  Close in the first two quarters, Graveney took the reins in the second half and secured a 10-2 win.  Graveney played St Cecilia's for the Y8 crown, and stamped their authority on the match from the first whistle.  They won 43-0.  Unfortunately for the St Cecilia's Y9 team, who waited in the cold for an hour, Ashcroft were a no show, so St Cecilia's were awarded the Y9 Champions honour.  Battersea Park played Graveney in the Y10 final, and offered the closest fight of the day.  Each team scored alternately for the first 3 quarters, and in the last Graveney built a 2 goal lead which ended the game 12-10.

Congratulations to all finalists, it was a tough day to catch a ball cleanly and the girls showed a real determination to play until the last whistle.  Graveney and St Cecilia's Y8 teams will progress to the Central London Finals on 24th March.

Thank you to Burntwood for hosting the finals, and to all the teachers who umpired on the day.
