Step into Sport Camp 2011

Three Wandsworth students attended the Step into Sport Camp in Loughborough from 18th-21st April.  Jaden Davidson-Cameron (Chestnut Grove), Laurelle Jordan and Louise Walker-Smith (Southfields) tested their skills in team building, leadership, communication, event management workshops as well as gaining an NGB accreditation.  A video, produced by some of the young volunteers can be seen by clicking here.  Please read on for Jaden's account of camp!

My Camp Experience By Jaden Cameron

The step into sport camp was exactly what it says in the name. The amount of different sports there were to do was unbelievable, some I've never heard of before ! For example I got a sport called 'Wheelchair rugby'. It is a able bodied sport that disabled people can participate in. The main thing was to enjoy ourselves and make new friends. Which I did and I will never forget.

I learnt many things about myself while at camp, but the number one thing I learnt was to enjoy myself and take every opportunity thrown at me. The main focus was the 3 c's which were 'Communication, Courage and Compassion'. I also learnt to let other people have their say and point of view on situations.

There was not one bit I did not enjoy at camp I loved every single second! Especially being with my group Baustria (a group made up of two groups Belgium & Austria). Also I loved the Disco, I'm not really a party/disco type of person but because I felt so comfortable around everyone and had no worries I let myself loose and had a great time.

In the future I will now never ever take things for granted, respect what other people have to say and carry on learning to spread great leadership into other people.
