The first ever London School Games held at Crystal Palace on 28th June saw hundreds of Wandsworth children compete and perform with tremendous talent and style.
Chestnut Grove Steel Pan Band got the event underway with a brilliant performance in the School Games opening ceremony in front of thousands of young Londoners competing at the event. They were followed by the Southfields dance group and Graveney dancers who also put on a great show.
There were also some tremendous performances by Wandsworth schools in the competitive sporting events. Belleville Gymnasts excelled at the Key Steps Gymnatsics, with the Year Y5&6 team winning the whole competition and becoming London champions. The Belleville Year 3/4 team came second, picking up the silver medals.
St Joseph's who won the Tri Golf competition at Southfields, came 6th overall in the London finals and Belleville tennis team served up some ace tennis in the Mini Tennis Red finishing in 5th place despite not losing a match. There were other fine performances on the day from Penwortham in both the 3v3 Basketball and the Quadkids athletics event and the Linden Lodge Boccia team performed admirably.
In addition to this, there was a strong Wandsworth presence in the Fanfest event with students from John Burns, St Boniface, Hotham, Westbridge and Falconbrook all taking part in a number of taster events and activities.
