The summer term has been a busy period for the School Games competitions in Wandsworth with another seven schools qualifying to represent the borough in the LYG School Games final at Crystal Palace.
Students from Brandlehow, Riversdale, St Josephs and Penwortham took part in the Tri Golf Competition that was held at Southfields Academy. The players were able to try out the pitching, putting and maths skills at the event run by Mr Miller, Mr Kearins and young sports leaders from Southfields and St John Bosco College. At the end of a day, Penwortham school ran out worthy winners and will go to the School Games level 3 event.
At Crystal Palace they will be joined by Belleville’s Gymnastic team and Mini Tennis squad who won the Keys Steps Gymnastics and Mini Tennis Red competitions respectively. 20 teams competed at the gymnastics event at Southfields Academy, but Belleville proved too strong for everyone and defended their Wandsworth title by putting on a fantastic performance.
In the tennis, Belleville again proved victorious beating a field of 13 teams including Brandlehow from the Southfields cluster.
Ashes fever has also made a big impact in Wandsworth with 36 schools competing in the three Wandsworth competition held at Spencer Cricket Club. There were excellent performances from all the schools involved with Honeywell and St Mary’s Putney going on to the school games finals.
