GamesForce Events Award

A group of Year 10 students at Graveney and 6th formers at St Cecilia’s Wandsworth became some of the first graduates of a new sports leadership and volunteering course for young people. The GamesForce Event Volunteering Award focuses on developing the skills and qualities of volunteers to help deliver and organise sports events and competitions such the School Games.

The course was designed especially for the London Youth Games and was delivered at St Cecilia’s by Nick Miller, School Games Organiser at Southfields Academy.

At the course, 9 students took part in a number of interactive activities to enable them to understand the roles and responsibilities of sports volunteers and how to develop their own leadership skills.

Eddie Pinder, student from St Cecilia’s, said “I really enjoyed the course, it was great fun and inspired me to get involved with volunteering at my football club in the future”.

Nick Miler said, “We had an excellent day, the students definitely demonstrated a wide range of leadership skills and qualities. I am looking forward to working with them in the future at some of our School Games events in Wandsworth.”
