We Don't Like Cricket, We Love It!

The presence of International Test Cricketers Andrew Hall (South Africa) and Alex Tudor (England) helped to make the Wandsworth Kwik Cricket Festivals the most memorable in recent years. A total of 42 teams played in the 3 competeitions held at Spencer Cricket Club, with fantastic support from Spencer CC & Surrey Cricket coaches.

A record 18 schools and almost 200 children competed in the Year 6 best competition, with St Mary's Putney, Honeywell, Belleville and Penwortham qualifying for the semi-finals. Following a long day of cricket, the final turned out to be a Northcote Rd Derby with Belleville beating Honeywell in an excellent final.

The girls competition ended in a similar result with Honeywell narrowly losing out to Belleville in the final. However, this only tells part of the story in which 11 schools (double that of last year) took part in great cricket day of matches and coaching from Spencer CC.

Fourteen schools also attended the Year 5 Competition in which The Roche, Belleville, Honeywell and Sheringdale reached the Semi Finals. With Belleville and Sheringadle victorious they played out the final in which Belleville won with a convincing performance.

Steve Kersley from Spencer CC said; "We have had three fantastic days of cricket at Spencer. In addition to all the great matches, Andrew Hall & Alain Jason ran a series of cricketing skills clinics for teams between games, providing activity for pupils and teachers alike. Also Alex Tudor was also on hand to speak & encourage the individual squads. It was really inspiring to see the effect of an international cricketer ask kids about their school – schools he himself knows and remembers from having played sports against."

Belleville, coached by Spencer's 1st XI player Jon Speller, ran out winners in all competitions and they were presented their medals by Andrew Hall.

Thanks to everyone at Spencer and Surrey Cricket for their hard work to make the competitions such a fantastic experience for the children playing cricket.
