Wandsworth children joined thousands of young people at the final of the London School Games at Crystal Palace on 30th June. Whether the students were competing, volunteering as sports leaders or taking part in the Fan Fest events, they all had a great day out.
There were some tremendous performances by Wandsworth schools in the competitive sporting events. Belleville Gymnasts excelled at the Key Steps Gymnatsics, winning the Y5&6 team competition retaining their crown as the London champions. Belleville Year 3/4 gymnastics squad finished in a fantastic 5th place.
St Mary's Putney basketball team and Belleville Tennis squad both missed out on winning through the group stages of their respective competitions, finishing 17th. Holy Ghost put on an excellent display coming 12th in the Quadkids athletics event. Fircroft also performed well ending up 20th in Tri-Gof.
In addition to the competitors, Wandsworth had a high profile at the London finals with Broadwater Dance group performimg at the opening ceremony and students from Southfields volunteered as sports leaders as part of the Games Force Team programme.
In addition to this, there was a strong Wandsworth presence in the Fanfest event with students from Franciscan, Broadwater, Penwortham and Fircroft all taking part in a number of taster events and activities.
