Battersea Park School fly flag for Wandsworth

Battersea Park School narrowly missed out on qualifying for the London Zone Finals of the U14 Boys English Schools National Basketball competition when they attended the Central London Finals last Monday 15th March.

Having qualified as Wandsworth winners from the U14 competition held in January the boys from Battersea came up against the top teams from six other Central London boroughs at the impressive Little Venice Sports Centre, Westminster .

Playing in ‘Pool A’ Battersea Park took the first win of the day against St Pauls School and then secured their place in the Final with a nail-biting 14-11 win against St Aloysius College – Dale hitting a 3 pointer with 10 seconds remaining on the clock to win the game!

Bishop Thomas Grant School from Lambeth came through a tough Pool B beating Paddington Academy, Harris Academy Peckham and Haverstock School to cement their place in the final.

The Final was a close and competitive game which saw Bishop Thomas Grant take an early lead – Battersea fought hard to stay in the game but eventually lost by 3 points 14-11. Coach Sarah McDerrmott said: “The boys did superbly today – I am so proud of them. The standard of play from all teams was extremely high and this is an incentive for the boys to work even harder! We wish Bishop Thomas Grant all the best for the next round.”

The Central London Finals were organised by several Central London School Sport Partnerships with support from the Central London Competition Manager team.
