Over one hundred Year 9 girls from 7 Wandsworth schools descended on Southfields Community College for the 7th Annual Active Girls Day on 12th October. The girls took part in a variety of activities from Street dance, Cheerleading, Boxing, Climbing, Zumba, Yoga, Cardio Tennis, Bollywood and Fitness.
The whole day was a great success with students, volunteers and teachers from Ashcroft, Battersea Park, Burntwood, Chestnut Grove, Elliott, Graveney, John Paul II and Southfields taking part in three sessions of different activities. Groups demonstrated the routines they had learnt in Street dance and Cheerleading sessions to everyone before the girls took part in an inter-school rowing challenge to conclude the celebration.
In addition to a fun packed day, the girls raised a total of £580 for The Panathlon Foundation Charity who works closely with Wandsworth School Sport Partnership and Southfields Community College to provide sporting opportunities to young disadvantaged children in the borough.
Jenna Luiten, Assistant PDM from the Wandsworth School Sport Partnership said: “The girls, volunteers, teachers and instructors all enjoyed every aspect of the day. It was great to see so many girls engaged in such a variety of physical activities, as well as raising money for such a good cause.”
Sky from Southfields said “Active Girls was really really fun. We got the opportunity to do new things and there was a variety of activities. The instructors were really cool and helpful. It was really good.”
