On Tuesday 7th December, hundreds of young people gathered at Old Palace Yard opposite the Houses of Parliament to protest against the government's decision to cut school sport funding.
Nichola Fitzsimmons, Shannon Higgins, Bolaji Sowunmi and Lauren Marsh (Chelsea Academy) and Matt Sears (LSA) accompanied Nick and Jenna to the SSP demo at Westminster. School children from across the country made the trip to London for the peaceful protest led by Debbie Foote, a young ambassador from Lincolnshire. Over the past three weeks school sport partnerships have been collecting signatures opposing the coalition government's decision to cut ring-fenced funding for school sport.
Today, six students, alongside Denise Lewis, handed in the petitions containing over 500,000 signatures to government ministers urging them to rethink their decision.
The Southfields students were all brilliant, as peaceful protesters and as great ambassadors for the school, Chelsea Academy, Wandsworth SSP and themselves. Nick and Shannon were interviewed by BBC Radio London. Their comments should feature on the Drive Time show this evening.
Thank you to everyone that has supported the Wandsworth school sport partnership.
