With an excellent representation from Wandsworth, the Maurice Fulcher Trophy Finals were set for some tough clashes.
Furzedown and All Saints were grouped with Woodmansterne from Lambeth and Belleville, Sheringdale and St Mary's Putney were in the second group.
It was obvious that all schools were worthy of their finals place, as games in the group stages were tight and was reflected in the group placings, only a run or two spliting first and second place in each group.
It ended up being a Putney showdown, with All Saints facing St Mary's in the final. And what a final it was; big hitting, quick running between the wickets, unplayable bowling and some amazing catches! St Mary's were 5 ahead with one ball to be bowled. The batter played it against the wall, and loud shouts were coming from their Headteacher, 'RUN, RUN, RUN', and so like good pupils, they followed orders! All Saints kept their cool, fielded the ball quickly and got the run out! So minus 5 for the wicket, but a run scored for hitting the wall, St Mary's won by a run!
An awesome display of cricketing prowess made the final, and the competition a great example of competitive sport in South London. Congratulations to St Mary's on being crowned Maurice Fulcher Trophy winners, and well done to all Wandsworth schools that made the final. We look forward to seeing you all when the outdoor cricket starts.
