In September, Wandsworth School Games joined forces with Wandsworth Sports Development to establish a new volunteering programme in the borough. Since then over 150 young people from Wandsworth Secondary and Special Schools volunteered their support at the School Games events in Wandsworth and at the London Youth Games. The events have provided valuable experience to the students keen to develop their volunteering and leadership skills.

These have included; Secondary basketball, athletics and netball, primary netball, hockey, football and athletics. They have also helped out at a number of events for young disabled students including a Winter Paralympics event at Linden Lodge.

In addition to this, the Wandsworth School Games has been able to organise a number of nationally recognised courses that has enabled students have also gained qualifications to support them in their leadership activities. Seven students, (4 Southfields, 2 St Cecilia’s & 1 Chestnut Grove)passed their FA Level One Coaching Award, 10 students from Southfields & 10 from Oak Lodge completed the LYG Games Force Events Award Course and 16 Sports Leaders from Graveney passed the Tennis Leaders Award.
